One of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading! I am sure that I will continue to read this one over and over again! 5 stars!

Something of a mix between Grease and West Side Story with a younger protagonist. Fantastic themes of loyalty, family, found families, friendship, and loss. The writing and language choice reflected the voice of the narrator well, but occasional incorrect verb conjugations sometimes rubbed me the wrong way.The character development is somewhat haltingly created, with the majority of the character arcs taking place in the final two chapters. I previously read this book in high school for a novel study in ELA. I don't often do re-reads but, since I read this one so long ago, I requested the audiobook when I saw it on my library's Overdrive.

I initially read this back when I was teen or pre-teen in the 80s. I didn't much care for it then, but thought since it was a short book, I would listen to it on audio again. Unfortunately, I still wasn't too crazy about it, but I gave it 2 stars. I really couldn't relate too any of the characters, although when they talked about Ponyboy, Sodapop, Johnny, Dallas, and the others, I kept picturing Ralph Macchio, C.
