I really enjoyed this book. Usually YA books are moralistic and written in a very simplified way. It is something that really bothers me. In this story delicate themes are covered, but not in a patronized way. The only minus for me was the oldest son story. It didn’t ring lifelike:-( But for the rest: nothing but good things on this YA bovel.

A coming-of-age story about family and identity. Ari has twin sisters who are much older than him, a brother in prison that no one talks about and no friends - until he meets Dante at the pool one Summer. It took me a little while to connect with the story but by the end I really appreciated its sweetness and warmth, it's a quick, feel-good read.

This is a book that I meant to read a long time ago. I hate that I waited so long.
I really enjoyed this book and the characters were so loveable. So what are some of the secrets of the universe that I remember reading: (1) that our instincts are stronger than our minds and (2) that dogs are the secrets of the universe.
Great quote from this book: "To be careful with people and words is a rare and beautiful thing."

So I'm not sure how much of the cuteness comes from the book itself, and how much from Lin Manuel Miranda's narration (let's be honest, most of it was the narration). But either way it was very cute. I loved both boys. I'm not so sure each parent would have been so forward thinking way back when in 1987 in El Paso, Texas, but that's fine. These kids deserve a break, and it's nice that the parents turned out to be sweethearts also.
