I had mixed feelings about The Maze Runner. Part of the story I found really interesting and good, other things... well, I thought were really silly/stupid (especially some of the words that were used). It also took me a while to get into the book.
The ending of The Maze Runner was great and I was surprised to learn what was really going on. So, overall, The Maze Runner was a good one-time read. I might read the sequel, The Scorch Trials, but I'm not sure yet.

The was confusing at the start, what with all the alternate curse words and not understanding where they really were or why. I didn't particularly care that much for Thomas, he was a bit annoying and pushing to do things his way so quickly. The fact that a lot of the time that worked out better was disappointing, though it did show how you sometimes need a new perspective to solve things. (view spoiler)

the movie adaptation stayed pretty true to the book. i'm usually a must-read-before-watch kind of girl, but i'll admit, having watched first allowed me to visualize the Glade/Maze much better. some ladies from my book club opted to read this a few months ago when our book choice was any book that was becoming a movie this year. they both said they liked it but never finished it. i think maybe seeing the movie would help. still enjoyed the short chapters and Dashner's writing style which makes it

Interesting premises, pale characterizations.
The main protagonist, Tom, was likeable (even though he had traces of being a Gary Stue). My favorites were Newt and Minho who were the only ones who experienced more than one emotion and who had some kind of development. Sadly Teresa and the other boys stayed kind of one-dimensional.
It's a fun read, because there's always something happening and there are a lot of very thrilling moments and you really want to know what the hell is going on?! But it ...more

I wanted to read the entire series (well I didn't WANT to even finish the 1st book, but I read it to please my teenager) before deciding how to comment/review.
1st - I've noticed that more & more authors are writing at a high school level, that manages to grab your attention like a bad movie; that's it! We have a whole generation of people who write like they watch TV movies...and the answer is always...add more drama & the fans will love it! Make it gorier! Add some violence! Wait, sex? Maybe my expectations were set too high, but I didn't really find this "amazing" or "suspenseful". :(
The withholding of information is incredibly annoying. And pointless - it didn’t serve the narrative, it didn’t serve character development, it only served to make the protagonist a special snowflake. There was no reason for the others not to tell Thomas what was going on when he showed up, and that same level of “shut up stop asking questions” continues throughout the book FOR NO REASON.
