This book was well written. It was a good book. But it is very sad and depressing and I wish I hadn't have read it.

I feel like I was watching a diaster and this book was going to detail that diaster. I felt like a gawker, who can't turn away from a very bad situation that happened. Morbid curiosity takes over and you have to watch to the end, knowing nothing is going to be right. I hate gawkers...and now I have led myself into that category. Clay fürchtet sich davor seinen Part zu hören. Was hat er getan oder unterlassen das jemanden bewegt Selbstmord zu begehen? Eigentlich war er doch heimlich verliebt in Hannah. Was er dann zu hören bekommt, sind die Qualen denen der seelisch instabile Teenager ausgeliefert war. Mobbing an der Schule, Jungs die sie nur als Sexobjekt betr Ein Päckchen mit 7 Kassetten verändert sein Leben. Was er dann zu hören bekommt, sind die Qualen denen der seelisch instabile Teenager ausgeliefert war. Mobbing an der Schule, Jungs die sie nur als Sexobjekt betrachten, weil sie einen gewissen Ruf genoß und zu guter Letzt, die Vergewaltigung einer Mitschülerin. Das alles war zuviel für Hannah und jetzt ist ihre Stunde gekommen und sie erzählt ihre dreizehn Gründe nicht länger Leben zu wollen.

Der Plot ist sehr, sehr deprimierend und verstörend. Zumindest hatte ich das Gefühl beim Lesen. Man folgt Clay wie er die einzelnen Stationen die Hannah aufzeigt, abläuft. Dabei ihre Stimme im Ohr, die das Bild einer verstörten instabilen Persönlichkeit zeichnet. Und dazu seine Furcht, wann er wohl erwähnt wird. Die Sympathie die man für Clay empfindet, versetzt auch den Leser in Angst. Was zur Hölle hat er nur getan, dass einen Selbstmord rechtfertigt? Ich wollte nicht, dass mein Bild von dem höflichen zurückhaltenden Jungen zerstört wird. Gekonnt lässt der Autor seinen Hauptprotagonisten durch die nächtliche Stadt wandern, dass verstärkt das Gefühl der Beklemmung. Allein zu sein in einer kalten, hartherzigen Welt. Bis zu letzt hatte ich gehofft, das Hannah vielleicht doch nicht tot ist, nur in eine andere Stadt gezogen und sich einen miesen Racheplan zurechtgelegt hat. Ich hatte es für Clay gehofft, der sie so liebt und auch ein bisschen für mich und meinen Gerechtigkeitssinn. Aber das Leben ist nun mal kein Ponyhof und offensichtlich auch nicht die Zeit als Teenager. Wo man vor Hormonen nicht mehr ein, noch aus weiß und so manche Dummheit begeht, man aber auch lernen muss dafür die Konsequenzen zu ertragen.

Man sollte dieses Werk also nicht gerade in einer depressiven Stimmung lesen, da man sonst nur noch weiter runtergezogen wird. Ansonsten gelingt es dem Autor hervorragend mit wenigen Mitteln ein beklemmendes Bild zu zeichnen, von Jugendlichen die versuchen Erwachsen zu werden und dabei manchmal auf der Strecke bleiben.

I'm in an empty daze after reading this book. This is currently a huge hit in Netflix and before that version, like a true bibliophile, I wanted to finish the book version first.
My gut instincts had already told me I would be inviting over a storm, but I just had to read it.
And, Oh. My. God. It was so emotionally draining.
Maybe because Hannah was a lot like Me.
Because She had chosen to give up while I'm still fighting on and on, despite being so tired.

I give it four stars for being fast-paced and keeping my interest throughout. But, I could have easily given this book three stars and not have lost any sleep over it. The characters were all pretty unlikeable, to be honest. And, I wasn't completely satisfied with the ending...although, I think the final moment was very nice and damn near saved this book for me. Anyway, if I were a teen I'd probably love it, but as a crotchety 30-year old...it was only okay. And, I know that is the unpopular opi ...more

Hannah Baker recently committed suicide. She left behind 7 tapes with the 13 reasons why behind. She did not leave them where just anyone could listen to them. She mailed them to the first person on the list that had, as she saw it, a hand in causing her to commit suicide.

Gripping tale. A teen suicide speaks after death via a series of cassette tapes she recorded. Addressed to those she felt responsible for driving her to this end.

We experience it through Clay, the latest recipient in the chain... He begins listening and then can't stop.

This provides a very interesting split narrative as Hannah tells her story and Clay's reactions and thoughts and actions interject in between, often filling in a different perspective. I'm not finished yet but I'm looking forwar ...more
