I know this story is getting a lot of press right now with the release of the Netflix series that just came out. I agree with some of what is being said especially when you compare it to the book. They kind of went over board and could have handled things somewhat differently and still had a good story. I think the book is important as it shows how things can pile up for a kid and how one kid can feel so overwhelmed with everything and just feel like giving up. This is a hard book to like. Hannah basically blames everyone on those tapes for having a part in her suicide, but what about the choices SHE made? There are many examples that she has pointed out in the tapes where she chose inaction. Life is all about choices, the ones we did AND did not make. I really hate when someone does not take responsibility for their own actions. This isn't a book that I would recommend. ...more

4.5 stars that I'd almost round up to 5 but eh, not quite. (I'm turning out to be a really big Jay Asher fan, as I gave What Light 5 stars!) As for this book, I feel it is one that will stick with me and it is one that is important for young people to read. Bullying and other avenues of peer neglect and hatred are just so terrible and cruel. No individual--regardless of age--should feel like they are worthless and have no one to turn to.
