The book is an amazing read, no doubt about that. It portrays the hardship the women went through during the time of the war. How they suffered while the men were away fighting at the front, but most importantly, how they bravely stood against every problem that came their way.

Devastatingly good! Kristin Hannah delves into wartime France, when Nazies paraded through the streets and billeted in homes. The two Rossignol sisters are divided by life choices, but both explore what it means to be courageous, to love and to be a family. I loved the resilience displayed by the characters and they make me want to be a better, stronger person.

So good. It's an epic with a narrow focus and I think that serves her well for such a sweeping story. I really appreciate the new focus on women's perspectives in historical fiction recently and she did such a good job with it here. I do feel like it could have been tighter in the beginning -- I really got into it around page 200 or so. However, I feel like a lot of that story was needed to establish the characters, so I don't think it needed to be cut down THAT much. I loved both the main chara
