The setting is alternate world contemporary Houston; all being the same except forms of magic have been genetically advanced since the 1880s to form dynasties. I think these two could write stereo instruction in another language and I would still buy it and try to learn that language because..well...they can do no wrong. I'm kinda glad I came to the Ilona Andrews world kinda late because all the books are out. I may have had a nervous breakdown if I started reading them when they first came out and I would have to wait for the next one. Awesome writing, world building, and character development in this series. Plus they make me laugh. Which is a bonus

Nevada Baylor is building the Baylor Investigative Agency back up following her dad's long illness and death. She needs it to be successful so she can support her big, extended family. Her mortgage is owned by Montgomery International Investigations (MII) and they want her to search for psychopath, Adam Pierce. He is a spoiled rich kid with very strong fire powers whose family is constantly paying to get him out of trouble. MII doesn't care how diffiicult that is going to be for Nevada. Succeed
