Coming back to this book after almost 10 years as a mature person with a very different eye and view of the world really hits differently, I still think it's fucked up and just sad but it's all true and coming to be, or it's happening while I'm writing this right now, the world is actually that bad if not worst, did Orwell see into the future or he just felt that history will repeat itself?

I read it several years ago. As someone from a (at least formerly) communist country I was really impressed by its interesting & rather accurate depiction of brainwashing. There's an interesting blog post on this & Brave New World: http://chiusse.wordpress.com/2013/01/... I think it's especially relevant to self-identified western leftists today as a reminder that progressive movements & causes can be, and often have been hijacked by chauvinism & authoritarianism.

I initially did not like this book at all and thought it was boring and irritating. I did enjoy it more about half way through in the way that the story explored the world and what did/did not would/would not happen and why. While I wouldn't say that I loved this book, or even that I liked it, I enjoyed it a lot more than I initially thought that I would and got more out it than I expected.
