This was one of my all-time favorite books. Now if you haven't read this, don't read ANY FARTHER.

So from the start I have LOVED Cam and HATED Daniel. So, WHY DID CAM HAVE TO BE THE BAD GUY(SORT OF)!!! God! I loved him!

So, basically, another loser heroine. Her name's Luce. Yeah, I know. She's been seeing "shadows" for her whole life. Her parents have sent her to Sword and Cross, a reform school for kids who've screwed up. Everyone's convinced she killed her friend Trevor by starting a fire.

So, she gets there and is greeted by Randy, the he-she attendent and 3 new kids. Well, only one is new, the other 2 are back again. Can you guess who? There's a wimpy boy with freckles named Todd, a blond, clear-skinned girl named Gabbe and a stocky boy with black hair named Cam (CAM!!!). So they dump their "hazards" in, (matchbooks from Todd, a Swiss Army Knife from Gabbe and spray paint and a box cutter from Cam. Luce drops in her phone. Afterwards, a spunky girl names Arriane shows her around. I love Arriane. She's crazy. I won't even get into her. So, she shows her around and they go to lunch. Someone pushes Luce into Molly's tray. Molly is EVIL. She steps on Luce and yells at her. Arriane punches Molly in the eye. It was AH-MAZING!! So they all get sentanced to detention. A girl named Pennyweather Van Syckle-Lockwood, or Penn for short. They become instant friends. At detention, she pairs up with Arriane. I think a hilarious part was when Arriane called Cam Chester the Molester. Only because it was random, weird and his name isn't even Chester. Anyways. A statue falls on Luce and Daniel saves her. So saw that coming! So he seeps acting like she's a stalker-freak. Cam keeps acting totally sweet yet she ignores him basically and keeps falling for Daniel. Whom I hate. Daniel and Cam fight over Luce, like an all out brawl which was amazing. While she was thinking Go Daniel! Cam better not hurt him! I was thinking GO CAM!!! HURT DANIEL BAD!! So, there's a fire. Luce escapes with Todd. So she's taken to the hospital. Todd died. Yadda yadda. In the end, Daniel, Cam, Roland, Gabbe and Arriane turn out to be angels. Cam and Roland are bad. Oh well. I still lurve Cam! But Rolands not there and it's 1 against 3. Ms Sofia goes crazy and kills Penn. Just like that. How horrible right!? Yeah. OK. So, her and Daniel are all in love (gagging! help! gagging!) and she has to go away. Cam and Daniel make another truce and that's the end.
Annoying book trait: Luce talked about Dover WAY TOO MUCH!

Fly high, Cam. Go brain yourself, Daniel.

This book is a case of a "great premise lost in translation". The main character's backstories, which should have justified the setting of the story fall far short of the mark. I mean...the kids were in reform school, yet I saw no behavior that would justify the "barbed wire" that surrounded the place.
Luce and Daniel were never sure of anything...Did she really see the shadows? Yes? No?
Did he really know her from before? Yes? No?
Did she really want Cam? Yes? No?

scary....gripping..thrilling ..romantic . most of all i have mixed feelings about some of the choices she makes throught the book its confusing and hard to put down its like what is she going to do next!convicted of murder, put away for psycotic behavior ,a teacher going wacko and trying to kill her ,its all thats needed for a great book?!?excellent but is the size of the bible !! read it in one day and freakin loved it !! cover art is fantastic it is by fernanda brussi goncalves (yee.com)!love ...more
