Bess tries to help a soldier who believes that his distant cousin tried to kill him on the battlefield. One of the most pure mysteries in the series, Bess and Simon interview villagers, the mother of the distant cousin and the local vicar and his wife. Bess's father is drawn in as well and there are numerous chases across the countryside as Bess and Simon play cat-and-mouse with a deceptive and dangerous opponent. Excellent story.
