I usually like Mira Grant's work. I couldn't figure out why I felt vaguely dissatisfied. After sleeping on it, I realized that the problem was that the story was written like a classic Hollywood monster movie. There were some of the things I roll my eyes at the most during those types of films. For example, people see the monster tear their friends to shreds and then, an hour later, are angsting over their possible romantic feelings for one another, rather than figuring out how to survive.
