One of the finest science fiction novels written with perhaps the finest opening line in all of modern fiction. 1984 has given us many phrases that have become a part of the modern lexicon. It was written in 1948, Orwell simply inverted the numbers of the year, and was way ahead of its time in carrying a totalitarian regime to its ultimate conclusion (it is frankly the literary depiction of Plato's Republic). It was hard in a lot of places because a lot of it is just a political rant which I have no interest in. I think some of the concepts it came up with were interesting but these concepts were expounded on for pages and pages.
