Shelves: favorites
This story reminds me of a quote "Those who choose not to read and those who cannot read are the same -- ignorant."

It is the story of a distopian world; much of which is so accurate to real life it's kind of eerie. Authorities don't want you reading books -- owning books for aesthetic purposes is ok, but reading books is a waste of productivity. Why do you have to get any smarter? The big Gov is taking care of everything for you.

This one was quite tough to get through. I loved the philosophy at the end and the implication of the story, but there was a lot of stream-of-consciousness writing before I got to the good bits. I’m glad I read it, given its status as a classic and the current political climate, but it wasn’t one of my more enjoyable reads.
