What Members Thought
2023:
3,5 Stars
This time around I somehow found Fanny a bit too meek, and I didn't approve of all her choices considering the times, the information she had at the time and the future she otherwise would face. It's still Jane Austen and a good read of course.
4,5 Stars
A very sweet and charming story. I sympathized with Fanny a lot, she’s one of the more relatable of her Austen’s characters to me. The ending felt a little bit rushedm it all solved a little bit too fast. All in all a very good read. ...more

Considering this book as a romance, I feel cheated.
Considering this book as a social commentary on the purpose of marrying for love versus marrying for money versus compromising - it's a MUCH better book.
I really did not like the way that Austen just summarized about a year's worth of events for the last chapter.
