My son told me I would hate this book because it was "too dark". My friend warned me that it was often boring. My ex-professor warned me that its exploration of aestheticism might anger me. And in many ways they were all correct, but despite all of that I still loved the book.

Oscar Wilde is on fire in this novel! The witty repartee! The bon mots! The quips! It is amazing to witness. What a sharp, clever mind he had. He must have been so bored by most people, who couldn't keep up with him.

What would you do if you could see your true soul and not only see it, but see it grow old as well as change with all your sins? Dorian Gray tells the story of young man who sells his soul to remain young, but the painting ages in his place, before his very eyes which drives him to the bring of insanity and evil.

This is a simple case of be careful what you wish for.

This book is exquisitely written and leaves you in complete awe when you finish.

I felt more than anything it gave a good oversight of the period and dandyism. I didn't feel super connected to the book even though I knew I enjoyed it throughout, until I got home and realized I was going to get to read it tonight. I'm quite excited to do some research on the book and Wilde to get a more extensive take o ...more
