This second novel of the Philip Marlowe series was excellent. I really enjoyed reading Farewell, My Lovely. Raymond Chandler definitely knew how to keep his readers engaged. I definitely loved the hard-boiled dialogue and prose/style description of the early 20th century and Chandler doesn't hold back at any time. Great characters, awesome mystery, and some humor in the tale too. Not that his mystery had tons of comedy, but some wits here or there had made me chuckle a bit.

This is the second Philip Marlowe story I have read and the 2nd in the Philip Marlowe series. I read the first one, "The Big Sleep," back in 2018. This one has all the elements of the first one. Murder, sleezy hotels and bars and low life as well as high life people. The descriptions of the places are really detailed. There is a lot of drinking of alcohol in these stories. This one also includes descriptions of boats. The writing style is gritty but at the same time literary. It’s weird because ...more
