This is only my second book by Toni Morrison and I'm excited to pick up another. I enjoyed this book and needed to think about every chapter to make sure I could unfold everything. Sula is different from the other women in town. Her thoughts on sex and love are different and because of this most of the tenants of The Bottom can't stand her. They call her evil and even blame her anything having gone wrong in the town. Sula meets Nel as a young girl and the two are inseparable. The way their relat ...more

Over the past few months I have found myself reading many Morrison novels, as I have found they are all beautifully lyrical, extremely intelligent, and powerfully moving. Her prose is uncompromising and straight-forward with an approach to the hardest aspects of life that is always unguarded. She writes about heartbreak, pain, and the ugliest moments in life with so much beauty. I love her characters even when I do not like them very much.
