What a fun play! I watched a movie version before I began to read and I don't think I could have made sense of all the characters, and the play-within-the-play, or the humor... if I hadn't seen the movie first. I'm pretty sure that just reading it alone would have been very confusing, so the movie really helped prepare me for a read-through.
My thoughts: I don't tend to watch or read comedies, and am not a fan of Romantic Comedies (which this play is), but I really loved the play! It's very funny ...more

listened to the audible dramatized version. Had better understanding since I've read children's versions, but to be honest plenty went right past me. Maybe I should get an annotated edition for my next Shakespearean play

What I thought when I read it in 1989:
Enjoyed it but a lot of it went over my head. It's funny and absurd, but I think I had bigger expectations. People marvel at Shakespeare; I guess it was a little too slapstick for me. ...more
