This book is set in the time period right after Polk's administration. I just finished a biography of Polk it set me up nicely for the history behind this book.
Willa Cather writes of a slower time in history and she uses beautiful prose to describe the people and places in this story.
This book shows a true devotion to God and service to others.

My Antonia has always been one of my favorite books, and after reading Archbishop, I am kicking myself for not reading sooner. I love New Mexico and Cather’s descriptions of the state in 1850 is out of this world. Not a huge plot, but it’s not needed...

Heartwarming, beautifully-written book, which has been on my to-read list for a long time. My book club enjoyed it.
