I do believe that Frederick Douglass’ first narrative is one that should be required reading. It is that powerful and important. Douglass, one of the most recognized and important individuals in American history, write his narrative with emotion, rawness, and passion. He takes the reader through his arduous and painstaking struggle in gaining not only emotional freedoms, but physical ones as well.
