What Members Thought

I remember reading this as part of Bradbury’s classic science fiction compilation “The Martian Chronicles.” I also remember reading this in high school, being fairly indifferent to it, but not having the maturity or appreciation that I do now as I read this story.
The striking element of reading Bradbury is that one can pick up bits and pieces of just how truly prophetic his writings are at times, giving a glimpse of the future modern world. “There Will Come Soft Rains” is a story set in the fut ...more

I would never choose a Ray Bradbury story. I am just not his audience. But one of my groups picked it and I saw it was short so I decided to read it, and I am so glad that I did! This story is brutal, shocking, and emotive. The characters are absent and the absence is powerfully moving. I will not soon forget this simple, evocative story.

A great short story, depicting the way a modern house('smart home' we would say now) keeps operating after a nuclear bomb has hit. No people in this story and yet a compelling read.
My version was set in 2024, which added to the creepiness, I read there are also versions set in the 80s and 2050ish.
Another brilliant piece by Bradbury. ...more
