A beautiful story. It ends somewhat ambiguously, though an honest reader will make a conclusion one way, rather than another. I choose the other, because I fell in love with Lucy. She perseveres, despite all sorts of set backs and difficulties, and makes little demand on anyone. If there were a world of Lucy Snowe, the world would be in much better shape.
