Published in 1988, I was well into adulthood and hadn't had children. So, while I had heard of Matilda, I had never read it. I am so glad that I decided to remedy that. The book is sweet, charming, and silly in the best possible way. Dahl plays with language and tells the story of an odd, bookish girl with a sad home life. Luckily she is blessed with books, a librarian who challenges her, and a teacher who loves her. This one is easily read in an hour and will charm even the oldest young person,

There is not one movie that is more ingrained into most of my childhood memories than Matilda. I absolutely loved the movie growing up and still love it now. That movie made me realize that being a geeky bookworm was totally okay and kind of cool. I read Matilda for the first time 5 or 6 years ago and though I liked it, I still preferred the movie. Matilda was (and still is) one of my favorite childhood movies. I remember going to watch it in theaters when it came out and watched it endlessly when it came out in VHS. So, when I found this book at my thrift store for a dollar, I absolutely had to pick it up.
