I admit that it's only been in the past few years that I've read and grown to appreciate Jane Austin. Persuasion was the last complete novel that she wrote and it was published in December 1817 about five months after her death at age 41.

Highly recommend this rather high brow lecture by a very learned literary person as to why Jane Austen, and Persuasion in particular, is such an important book:
