Available at LibriVox. What a splendid book, I prefer it compared with The Woman in White.

A completely satisfying resolution to a convoluted and original mystery! Great fun!

Finished Saturday evening -- and how appropriate is it that I finished on the night of a "Super Moon"? An excellent read, cleverly written in the style of several narratives offering different perspectives of different stages of the mystery - would recommend this to anyone who enjoys vintage mysteries. Though I was correct in guessing "whodunnit," I don't think anyone could have figured out the exact details of "how" it was done. ...more

I had the pleasure to read The Woman in White a few years ago and was struck at the time by Wilkie Collin's ability to create an absorbing and compelling read. The Moonstone is an even better example of Collins' prowess. From the beginning, we are sucked into the story of a yellow diamond stolen from India and a group of men sworn to track it down and return it to its sacred spot. Collins couples his adventurous mystery with a handful of wonderful characters who take turns narrating the story. H ...more

This book was good, though I must admit that I prefer Collins' The Woman in White. Some memorable characters in The Moonstone are Betteridge, with his sense of humor and fascination with sleuthing, and the great Sergeant Cuff ... a similar character to Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. I found Cuff to be an enjoyable surprise in the book. Some stretches of the book were rather slow, but for the most part, this is an amusing read. ...more
