Such lovely prose for a story with no plot. And steam of consciousness gets old very quickly.
This is the first time I have read Virginia Woolf and the first time I've encountered anything like it.
I admit that I'm still rather new at this literary thing, nevertheless, Mrs. Dalloway is not your typical narrative. As a pioneer of modernism, Woolf's style focuses on the internal thoughts of her characters rather than the external surroundings and plot. As soon as I was able to grasp this, Mrs. Dalloway became a fresh and mentally stimulating experience for me.

Sorry, I just don't like the heavily stream of consciousness style of writing.
I forced my way through 20 pages of this - which is better than the two pages I managed on her The Waves or the two paragraphs of Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury. It's just not my type of book. ...more
