I've not seen the movie based on this book, and hesitated to read the book until all the attention had died down. I finally picked it up and was most thoroughly taken in by this compelling story of strength, sadness, cruelty, and perseverance. I cannot imagine the strength of character in anyone who endures such deprivation, torture and despair for so long after having known otherwise.

Everyone should read this book at least once in their lifetime. Should be mandatory reading in high school.
One of the best books you will read about slavery.
This book should be required reading.
