I originally only picked up this book because an actress/singer that I love is playing the main character's best friend in the movie (which I'm seeing the day it comes out, for sure!), but I ended up loving it so much and I am so happy that I decided to give it a shot.

this is literally one of the best and most important books I've read this year!! My only problem with this book was the writing. Unfortunately for me the writing had me a little 'meh' and cringed

~The Hate U Give is a book based on the views of an African American Teen. The book does not force the main character’s views on the reader, nor does it do it in a preachy tone. So far, I haven’t noticed an overrun of details, and it seems to be a balanced story that keeps to the plot / story line. This book would especially be well for Young Teens and Adults, it speaks on many issues that teens in today’s society will encounter, or will witness.
