I have become a huge fan of dystopian books and have been grabbing every one I can find.

I've read Lauren Oliver's first book, Before I fall (and liked it). So I was really looking forward to reading Delirium.

First off the cover. I must be crazy. And maybe this is because I've mostly seen the cover online, but I had the book for days before I noticed the face in the title letters. Boy did I feel dumb!

I have literally just turned the last page of Delirium and I am SOBBING. Now I know I cry a lot, but it takes a hell of a lot to make me sob. Delirium is quite possibly one of the most stunningly amazingly beautiful books I have ever read. No lies.

Lena and Alex are two of my favourite characters I've read about for a while. Watching first hand as Lena changed from being scared, not being able to wait until she was cured, to her seeing her world as it truly is, to see her finally wake up was amaz I have literally just turned the last page of Delirium and I am SOBBING. Now I know I cry a lot, but it takes a hell of a lot to make me sob. Delirium is quite possibly one of the most stunningly amazingly beautiful books I have ever read. No lies.

Lena and Alex are two of my favourite characters I've read about for a while. Watching first hand as Lena changed from being scared, not being able to wait until she was cured, to her seeing her world as it truly is, to see her finally wake up was amazing. And Alex. He was just brilliant. He was so caring, and kind, and not afraid to love. And he did love her, and she loved him and they were so beautiful together! And that's why it's all soo SAD!

The world building was also amazingly done and I felt like I was walking the streets of Portland with Lena, and all the quotes at the beginning of the chapter. There was such a vivid history and it felt like you knew the world. And the cure, and the whole sick and twistedness of the society. The thought that a world with hardly any emotion or affection at all, a world blanketed in fear, is a better than a world of colour and feelings and pure joy and LOVE. So what if love is what starts wars and violence, it's also what ends them. (Seriously, these guys need to read some Harry Potter. ;p)

And don't get me started about how amazing Lauren's writing is. Seriously, it is so damn beautiful, and it juts makes the ending that bit more soul wrenching. In a good way.

Even though I may have been a bit hesitant about starting Delirium out of fear it wouldn't live up to all the hype, it seriously did. Delirium is amazing and beautiful and IT WILL MAKE YOU CRY SO MUCH. I really am feeling so much love for this book. Just go and buy it and read it now. Only then will you understand, and (even though SO MANY people have used this line already) only then will you get infected with the Delirium. ;p 5 stars. :D And if Alex and Lena don't get a happy ending I will be PISSED. Okay, so the three stars probably isn't deserved. I should give it four for writing, but let me explain. I am very squeemish when it comes to swearing in a book. I know I'll get raked over the coals for that one. At first I thought, okay, I can understand why she is using such strong language, but it began to wear after a while.

I already know this is going to be in my top 10 reads of 2011. You know when you love a book, its a 5 star rating .. but there is always that list of extra special books which really made you stop and think 'Wow', immediately make an impact on you and the way you think. You find yourself taking a few minutes to get back into the real world after putting the book down, thinking of the book randomly and starting to feel the things the characters are..

This book did all of that.
The concept behind this book is scary and very sad, after reading the blurb l wondered how it would be written and the personality of the characters. I did enjoy Lauren's 'Before l fall' but l have to say this book was on another level, the writing was so much better and everything was much more believable.
Everything was perfect and written so well in a powerful way, the quotes are amazing and really make you think! Lena is such an innocent and angelic character l straight away loved her. I actually felt very lucky to see into her world and see how she grows and changes in this book, l felt like a proud best friend! Hana her best friend is also a great character in the book, l loved the friendship between them, how they have known each other for a very long time and how both girls just follow the path which the government set out for them. I feel this makes the book real, l mean if your born into that world you don't question it if you know the results if you do question society are things such as death?
I don't really want to spoil it by saying who she does the 'unthinkable' with but l also really loved this character. They all bring something special to the book and their relationships.
The ending was a shock to me and this is what totally made this book that bit more special than most other 5 star rating books. l found myself frustrated the book had ended (in a good way) it was a total shock how it ended and l have NO idea how its all going to turn out in the next book. I will be thinking about this book for weeks to come! ...more

This is a breathtaking, mesmerizing book that I couldn't close. The whole thing had me intrigued from the front cover all the way until the very last page, and I still wanted more.

Lena is a very likable character. At first, I was a little annoyed with her stubbornness - but the cure was all she was taught from a very young age, right? She didn't know better. Eventually, she grew and discovered the true meaning of life and love, developing a strong and fierce personality completely different from the one in the beginning. She was presented with many challenges in which she would have to overcome all the lessons she learned since the beginning and use her new strength to defeat the government and keep her love.

Hana was a favorite of mine from the beginning. She was a dedicated best friend, a little on the wild side, and just like somebody I would love to hang out with. She really pulls through in the end to help Lena. Her story makes me a little sad, and I hope she will eventually find true happiness.

And Alex - Alex was amazing. I loved his personality, his character, the colors he was described with: amber, honey, sunlight. I can't talk too much about him without giving away though, so moving on...

The theme of this novel fascinated me from the moment I read the blurb. Love being the enemy. And it made complete sense. (Not that I'd want the cure for myself.) It's wonderful when the author presents a challenge that seems to have no answer. It seems the protagonists are doomed from the beginning. I was lost in the world Oliver created, and I had no idea where she would take us next. Twists, turns, more twisting... I held my breath until the very last sentence.

If you love a science-fiction romance that won't let you stop thinking, your heart pounding, and provides a delicious jaw-dropper full of surprises, you'll love this book. ...more

Delirum by Lauren Oliver is by far the most over the top, buckle your seat belts and hold on roller coaster ride of your life. The intensity of this book leaves you breathless at the end. Again another book with the main character’s face on the page giving you the visualization of the person who’s world you are beginning to understand.

In a world where love is being stripped from your brain at the age of eighteen because it is said that it’s a disease. A world where the government not only monit Delirum by Lauren Oliver is by far the most over the top, buckle your seat belts and hold on roller coaster ride of your life. The intensity of this book leaves you breathless at the end. Again another book with the main character’s face on the page giving you the visualization of the person who’s world you are beginning to understand.

In a world where love is being stripped from your brain at the age of eighteen because it is said that it’s a disease. A world where the government not only monitors but controls every aspect of your life, your career, your financial stability and arranges the people who you are supposed to spend the rest of your life with simply by an evaluation scheduled right after your graduation. This is the world that Lena lives in. We begin with Lena who’s life we follow as she nears the time of her procedure. She’s a senior in high school and is about to graduate. She’s getting closer to the day of her evaluation and the suspense is killing her. She’s ready to have all of this behind her. But that’s until she meets Alex. Her entire world seems like it’s going to collapse one Lena finally opens her eyes and can see clearer. Her entire world begins to fall apart when she begins to doubt everything that has been instilled in her head since the day her mother died. And to make matter’s more confusing she meets Alex. Gets to know him, starts to like him and ends up falling in love with him.

The characters in this story make the story come alive. I instantly fell in love with Lena as I felt the emotions she felt. I felt as if I was living in her world and experiencing the same things she was. Lauren Oliver did a fascinating job with the descriptions of the people who have been cured and the ones who haven’t. The difference between the government and the people. She specified how and who controlled this world and the consequences should you deny your or in this case resist the procedure or their way of living. The most incriminating part was the Crypts. I couldn’t believe how descriptive it was and how I was able to imagine every single detail from there as if I was inside this story. Lauren Oliver is definitely in my favorite author’s list. The way she captivates you from the very first page and throws blow upon blow in every chapter leaves you like an addict wanting more. If you haven’t read Delirium, you HAVE to go a grab it. You will not regret it and if you have already, pick up the next book in the series called Pandemonium and stay tuned for my review of Pandemonium. If you have read Pandemonium already, pick up Hana’s which is a short novella ebook of Hana’s story in the book Delirum. And stay tuned for information on the third installment of this remarkable book Requiem later this year.
