Dear John is a beautiful story all around. Like other books by Nicholas Sparks, there is no happy ending for John and Savannah.

When I first started reading Dear John, I had low expectations. I saw the movie before I read the book, and I honestly did not like the movie. I hated how it ended. I didn't like how some things just didn't add up in the movie, so of course I had to go out and buy the book to see what really happened and what was going on in the heads of the characters.

I really enjoyed this book! Watching John's character grow was really enlightening to me. I loved his father, also. Savannah's character kind of annoyed me. I don't know why. All in all, this was a good book. It was a roller coaster ride of emotions. It broke my heart in places, and I know I will need to take a box of kleenex with me when I go see the movie. :) ...more

I've never read a Nicholas Sparks book before...I thought they would be trite and cliche. But to my surprise this one was actually well-written and moving, describing different relationships very well. I have to say that I saw the movie first, and I really liked it. When I saw the movie, people warned me that the movie ending was different from the book ending. Sure enough the endings are different, and funny enough I prefer the movie ending. I liked this book, and would recommend it to my friends.
