This was is on action packed, exciting read. I totally love the modern day faerie tale in which Julie has created. She has spun an amazing story wrapping in the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, and a beloved character from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Puck, as well as Queen Titania.

I wanted to read The Iron King by Julie Kagawa to see what all the fuss was about. The book had gotten great reviews, and I was curious...
Well... This book was awesome! I read it in one day! Filled with action and adventure, suspense and even a little bit of romance. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and had me on pins and needles up until the end. Mrs. Kagawa's writing style is wonderful. I was completely wrapped up in the faery world she created. I have to admit at first I was little hesitant to read this book and I don't really know why, but I am glad that I did. A friend recommended this book to me (and she normally recommends books I fall in love with :-P) and the minute I opened this book at 7am by 3pm I was done. I could not put it down. The only thing I did not like was that it took a while to really bring the love interest Ash into the story. He is introduced in a couple of chapters, but nothing really big. Once he is in the story

If you enjoy an author who is excellent at world building then this is the book for you. Ms. Kagawa shines while developing the world of the Fey and the Nevernever. The descriptions take you there without being too wordy and she does an excellent job balancing the world-building with the plot of this first installment in her Iron Fey series.
And if that isn't enough for you, the characters are amazing too. Robbie, Meghan and Ash are well-developed and you really feel like you get to know them. Th ...more

More like 4.5 Stars for me!
I love reading books about faeries, they are all so very interesting to me and it's a wonderful escape from the real world. I love how authors take different approaches and tell their stories of faeries in their own way. I was not disappointed with Julie Kagawa's The Iron King. She took the faeries that I already knew, the Seelie and Unseelie courts and created a whole new one: The Iron Court. Her book had me hooked from the very first chapter. This cover has half of a face, but I don’t even care. I love, love, love the use of the font here and how the swirls continue throughout the cover. Plus, every cover in the series looks great together. They will be awesome sitting on my bookshelf once I acquire The Iron Queen and The Iron Knight (non-ARC version). “The Iron King is a must read!”... well, I would have to agree Gena Showalter. “Iron, ice, a love doomed from the start.” Why did I wait so long to start these books?! I actually think

One of the best books I've read in a long time. Kagawa is a master storyteller whose writing style is both beautiful and detailed, yet fast-paced and action-packed. I enjoyed learning about the world she's created, and I was pleased to see that she'd taken fey mythology and made it her own, with some unique twists. I highly recommend this book to any who love urban fantasy.

Kagawa's debut offers a different twist on the fey that ties in A Midsummer Night's Dream and technology. I loved the way she combined the world of the fey with ours.
Ash and Puck are former best friends who are now romantic rivals. They are also as opposite as night and day, but equally awesome. I'm finding it hard to choose who I like more as I love Puck's humor but think Ash is sexy in a cold, I-always-fall-for-the-guy-who-treats-me-like-crap kind of way. This is somewhere between 4 and 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book but it took me a long time to finish it. I don't think it was the book but more the fact that I had so much going on. By the end of it I was sneaking moments just to get through a page or two. I'm excited to read The Iron Daughter now. :)
