I know that people think these books are too hyped now. Sorry, I still enjoy them. Books for me are like scents or songs. They take me back in time to different events in my life. These books take me back to a simpler time. I still enjoy them and get comfort from them.

I had every intention of starting my review out with something like this, "I'll be honest, had this been released back in 2008 when it was first scheduled to be released I probably would have LOVED it. With out sounding harsh, I'm not as big as a die hard fan like I was back when I pre-ordered it. Don't get me wrong, I do love the series. Had I not already pre-ordered it I'm not sure if it's a book I'd run out and purchase at the moment. Maybe I'm a little bitter it took so long for it come out, I had every intention of starting my review out with something like this, "I'll be honest, had this been released back in 2008 when it was first scheduled to be released I probably would have LOVED it. Honestly, when I first started looking through the book I wasn't like, "Oh wow I LOVE this book", and my first quote in this review mirrors exactly what I was thinking when I started reading it. As I started reading more and more of it I was reminded of why I feel in love with the series and that totally changed my review.

There is a lot of information in this book and history from Stephanie's characters and the world she's created. Any question Twilight fans have ever wondered about the characters, the world they're in, the setting, the character's history etc. can be found in here. I love how the book is separated into sections w/ the wolves, vampires, humans, origins and inspiration. The most appealing aspect of the book for me are the pictures and the illustrations. My favorite character illustration is of Renesmee. I of course love the whole Werewolf section, which it's rich history of the Quileute people and the bloodlines drawn out and in-depth information about each character.

I liked reading the little details, like how the songs from Stephanie's Twilight playlist inspired a scene. I also liked being able to read the detailed back grounds on many of the characters, including Victoria, which is surprising as I never really liked her character. Now I feel like I understand her a little more. I'm still amazed over the large cast of characters Stephanie created. I would recommend this book to Twilight fans. Even if you're not as die hard of a fan you were once were like myself, it's still a great addition to add to the series and a fun book to read. I'm glad I completely forgot I had pre-ordred it back in '08, or else I might have canceled the order and I may not have picked it up.

The Official Guide is definitely comprehensive. It's not the most exciting read, but it certainly provides an overwhelming amount of background information on the series and its characters. ...more
