Being a fan of Stephenie Meyer's book, I was little sceptical about this small novella. Especially because often that kind of "side-stories" are not as good as the original books. But it turned out pretty good.
Meyer writes as good as ever! She's a great story-teller.
I liked the character of Bree, who was actually an unsignificant person in Eclipse. In this novella, she was quiet, cautious, shy, keeping in background. She was nothing special compared to so many other characters in the book. But ...more

This book tells the story of Bree, a newborn vampire created by Victoria to be part of the army against the Cullens. Bree has only two concerns - quenching her thirst and staying "alive." But that changes as she begins to trust Diego, another vampire in the army who's slightly older. Together they uncover Riley and Victoria's plot. But in the end, it doesn't matter.

I was so excited to get my hands on a copy of Fans of The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner! Finally, something new by Stephenie Meyer.

I was kind of surprised that I ended up liking Bree as much as I did. I enjoyed seeing the newborns' side of everything that went down during Eclipse. I liked seeing how a "true" vampire that drink human blood thought. She was definitely smart but naive because Riley kept the newborns in the dark about some aspects of being a vampire. The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is the latest book from Stephenie Meyer. When she announced that this novella was coming out I got excited for it! I got it the day it came out and it is a novella so it was really short especially compared to the other 400+ page Twilight books it is only 178 pages long. But just like the other Twilight books Stephenie Meyer grabbed me with her amazing writing, wonderful story, a cast of unforgettable characters and this story would not let go. But just like the other Twilight books Stephenie Meyer grabbed me with her amazing writing, wonderful story, a cast of unforgettable characters and this story would not let go. There are spoilers in the rest of the review so I will say this to the people who have not yet read the Short Second Life and are going too: this story is a great compliment to Eclipse and shows a lot more than what we see in Bella's head. I loved seeing the Twilight world through another’s eyes and hope we get this experience again. Every Twilight fan will for sure enjoy this and be left thirsting for more.

SPOILER ALERT!!

One of the things I love about Stephenie's vampire world is that her vampires are different from others I have read: they are pale, have red eyes (except the Cullens who have gold eyes from a diet of animal blood.) They are strong and much faster than humans. They have their senses enhanced. It is next to impossible for a human to kill them: they cannot be staked, burned by the sun, nor do they have any aversion to crosses, but they can be torn apart and burned by their own. Some vampires also have extra "senses' or powers (min reading, seeing the future)
Then there are the "newborns" newly created vampires. They have everything the average vampire has but they are wild uncontrollable, and stronger than older vampires. They are also dominated by their thirst. So they cannot really think straight since the instinct to hunt is always there.
This is what Bree Tanner is: a newborn vampire. She has been one for three months. Created by who we know as Victoria but as the newborns know as HER Bree is plunged into a group of other newborns. So she must watch her back at all times so she does not die. One night she meets Diego a newborn like her and they swiftly become friends and find out their leader (Riley) and creator have been lying to them. They find out instead of being burned in the sunlight they glitter and the try to confront him but instead find him with HER. They realize that their coven has been created as an army to attack their creator’s enemies. The Volturi come to tell Victoria that she must attack soon before they come to her and destroy her army. I found this interesting that the Volturi wee involved and made them in a way more of enemies to the Cullens. Riley starts to train the newborns and Bree becomes friends with Fred a newborn who has the power to make people not want to see him or look at him if he wants to. After training they go attack a ferry for blood. I find this ironic in some way because it shows what they truly are: monsters. The next day they are about to charge into battle when Fred realizes the lies and runs away. So I hope there is a story about him someday. Bree goes into the fight looking for Diego but finds out he's dead. This is sad because she could have fallen in love with him. The Cullens take her in (I was so happy to see them again!) and take her to the meadow where her final moments are. This is the part where I got sad because I got so connected to her that it was sad to see her die. Overall this is a wonderful tragic story about a girl taken into the vampire world as an army, dies because of it, and never got the chance to love in her first or second life. This is a story that any Twilight fan will love.

I really did not like this book. I felt it a complete waist of time.
This novella is about Bree, the vampire that was involved in the Eclipse fight, found at the end of the fight and who was killed by the Vulturi.
I found Bree to be flat. There was very little told about how she became a vampire and next to nothing about her life before. There was no information to learn about Bree. And becuase there was no information added to the character, I didn't care about her. I especially didn't care abou ...more

The ONLY problem with this book was that you already know how it ends. Other than knowing the ending, the book was wonderful. I enjoyed it from start to finish. The insight to the newborns short lives was incredible and sad. Thank you Stephanie Meyer for once again compelling me with your words.

Although I was hoping for a little more of Bree's history (like pre-vamp maybe) I still really enjoyed the book. I feel kind of bad that she had to die now. I think she and Freaky Fred would have made an interesting addition to the Cullen Clan! ...more
