★★★★✩ (This is a review of the audiobook.) I truly enjoyed Marguerite Gavin’s narration of this first in The Hollows series, giving the first-person narrative for witch Rachel Morgan - who is a bounty hunter come private detective - great inflection, tone, and pacing. Nice differentiation of other voices, too. I’m looking forward to listening to more of her readings as I continue the series. And I’m definitely continuing the series!

I read this for the February Pick It For Me Challenge. As it turns out, I re-read it for the challenge.
20 pages in: this feels really familiar.
40 pages in: I read this before.
100 pages in: I remember that happening before.
300 pages in: why can't I remember how this ends?

2023 re-read:
A second re-read!
Still enjoyable third time round.
2015 re-read:
I first read this 8 years ago, and while the story was familiar, enough details had been lost in the sands of time to make the re-read enjoyable. There was a little fore-shadowing of the main bugbear I have with the later books, and Trent was a little unrecognisable really, he changed a lot. And, Kisten was there :)

Participating in the series re-read group with the author!
Next up, to read the prequel stories from -Into the Woods- before proceeding to book 2.
