What Members Thought

Holy melodrama, readers! I usually love the classics, and a good drop of symbolism and gothic romance usually pushes all the right buttons with me. I love Thomas Hardy, George Eliot, Charlotte Brontë, Jane Austen, etc., etc., so why did I dislike 'The Scarlet Letter' so much? The story was simply too melodramatic, it was far too long-winded and the style of writing was totally impenetrable.
