Well, that was earnest.
I like the idea of a Pakistani teen superhero. I even like some of the implementation--the scenes with Kamala's family were my favorite parts. But other bits, like the parts with Zoe, made me feel like I was being hit over the head with a hammer. Bigotry Is Bad, Mkay?
Meanwhile, the superhero side rang very, very flat. I will admit I am not much of a comics person, but when I do read superheroes, one of the things I like is the way the powers and villains often grow organic ...more

This was critically acclaimed for good reason. I don't enjoy stories that have lack of character development and an overarching plot built in (like sitcoms).
