Cassandra Clare is a FABULOUS writer. This was a GREAT way to finish the series. Though, I will have to say that fabulous and great can not cover Cassandra Clare or the book. I need better words to describe them, because those do not begin cover it. 5 stars from me, though it deserves a trillion times 10. It's just that good. Anyway, let me get on with the review. Clary finds a way to save her mother. There is a few things standing in her way though. Jace is one of them. For Clary to revive her mother, she needs to go to the beloved home of the Shadowhunters. Jace doesn't want her to go to Idris. He has doubts about the Clave and if they find out that Clary can create new runes, he doesn't know what they will want her to do. When Jace and the others leave Clary behind in Manhattan, Clary uses her ability to get to Idris herself. Clary and Jace have disagreements during the whole trip. Jace, Alec, and Isabelle are staying with friends of the family. While in Idris, Clary meets Sebastian. He seems familar to her, like one of the dark angels Clary would draw. Sebastian befriends Clary and tries to help her help her mother. Clary then finds out that Simon wasn't in New York, but in jail in Idris. From there Valentine gives the Clave a choice. Join him, or the demons would come. Everyone has a part in the war. Some are more important than others. New information comes out. Is Sebastian who he says he is, a cousin of the Penhallows? That feeling of disbelief we all had when we discovered that Jace and Clary were siblings, will we find out otherwise? Because we all know that we didn't want to believe it. But the real truth will come out, unless we already have been told the truth. The war breaks out and everyone is faced with death. Leaving two questions: who will win and who will survive? ...more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. So, after many weeks of "saving" this novel for a special occasion (that's how important it was to me) I finally read, and finished, it in a single day. And you know a book's got to be good if you can do that.

Put quite simply, it was stunningly, overwhelmingly fantastic. But then, I knew that. The conclusion to one of my favorite series ever couldn't be anything less than amazing. And of course, it fulfilled my every expectation and beyond.

I loved finally getting to see Idris and Alicante, but So, after many weeks of "saving" this novel for a special occasion (that's how important it was to me) I finally read, and finished, it in a single day. And you know a book's got to be good if you can do that.

Put quite simply, it was stunningly, overwhelmingly fantastic. But then, I knew that. The conclusion to one of my favorite series ever couldn't be anything less than amazing. And of course, it fulfilled my every expectation and beyond.

I loved finally getting to see Idris and Alicante, but the setting wasn't the best part. As always, that was the characters; some of the truest, bravest, funniest, most tormented, terrifying, brilliant characters I've ever met between pages. They carried this novel, from the beloved old characters to the new ones. And to my utter delight, after all the heartbreaking, breathtaking, insane happenings that befell them all, they were all okay in the end. And I, as a sucker for happy endings, was overjoyed by that. I didn't want to leave them any other way. And every one of them had a crowning moment of pure awesome, some more than one; from Jace's triumphs of both physical and emotional will, to Clary stepping up to lead with nothing more than a warrior's heart and an artist's gift, to Simon coming into his own as one of the strongest and most mature characters ever, to Isabelle and that badass whip moment, to Alec's "coming out" (YES), to Magnus's fantastic combination of magical skill and fashion sense. Even minor characters got their moments in the limelight.

The balance in "City of Glass" was also amazing. There were moments of laugh out loud hilarity, moments of crushing grief and swelling triumph and total horror. All the qualities that made the previous two books great were amplified here to make a stunning conclusion novel. I liked that not all the focus of the climax was on the battle, but instead a more intimate confrontation that meant much more.

I thought Sebastian was a lot to throw into the final book, but in the end he fit into everything. It was also easier to hate him as a villain on a more personal level than the cold, reserved Valentine. And wow was his entire death scene amazing. It was nice to finally understand everything about everybody's past, and that was extremely well thought out and handled by the author.

And of course, what makes me almost as happy as all these wonderful things is that the ending is open, and I know another book will follow (about Simon, YES. Love that guy.). So I'm not leaving them, not really, although I wouldn't be anyway, that's how real they've become to me. And that's good, because I truly enjoyed this adventure with them to the fullest. ...more

City of Glass is a stunning end to a phenomenal trilogy. It has become my favourite series.

Wow, pretty much sums up how I feel about The Mortal Instruments trilogy. I’ve been trying to think of a clever, more articulate way to express how much I enjoyed City of Glass but I just can’t. I tried my best to savour this book and stretch it out for as long possible, but it was hard. I’m surprised I managed to make it last three days! Who knew?? I went from a one star to a five star with this series. I really enjoyed this book. It was non stop and didn't have any irritating twists or leaps of logic (well, not any that really ticked me off). I loved trying to piece together the puzzle .. it was great detective work.
