right off the hop, we have an unreliable narrator! or do we? wheeeeee!! i enjoyed this read, and enjoyed being on alert for the lies from our narrator, detective rob ryan. his first person account flowed pretty well, as he went back and forth between the present crime under investigation and his own past and possible connection to the recent murder. i was second-guessing pretty much ever

I don't give many five star reviews. I tend to judge books on three different items: 1) Did I admire the prose, the workmanship, the research, the structure, and/or the effort put into the book? 2) Did I compulsively turn the pages well into the night, or find extra chores to just to keep listening to an audiobook? 3) Was I emotionally invested in the characters and their situation throughout the entire book? I am not a big fan of mystery/detective stories. But after reading some of Kate Atkinson's books I have given them more of a chance. I am glad I did! The story is told from the point of view of one of the detectives on a murder case that brings memories back of a crime that took place when he was a child.
