I loved this book not only for its ideas of what a future society might be like, but also, of course for the heavy 1980's NOSTALGIA FACTOR! As a kid of the 80s I ate this book up like candy- everything from books, to film to Ataru games are referenced with reverence in this book. Basically, in a a fuure America, everyone essentially LIVES online, even attending virtual reality school. The world itself is a cesspool of crime and overpopulation and pollution. The beginning is too slow - quite a lot of descriptions and explanations how that future world came to be. Which is fine I guess, but not for 70 pages straight. However, once the book picks up, it does so with style :) It's a great adventure story, it reads very fast, there are many plot twists and it will simply keep you on edge until the very end.

An awesome adventure through 80's video game / pop culture.
The story will hook you and keep you scrolling the pages on your e-reader as fast as your arcade hardened fingers will let you.
Set in a depressing sounding future most people take refuge online, on an all encompassing virtual world called the Oasis. When the founder of the Oasis dies he leaves a final message - he is leaving his vast fortune and control of the Oasis to the person who completes his challenge. The challenge is a series of ...more

I really liked this one mostly because I loved the 80's, and I'm a total gamer. Fun book!

Slow going at the start of the book, but about a quarter of the way through the book I didn't want to put it down. It's a little scary to think about how close our society might be to this scenario. I thoroughly enjoyed the 80s references; as a child of that decade it brought back memories and tested my recollection of that time. Well developed characters and an engaging storyline.
