I really wanted to read this, but was also hesitant because of the overwhelming love for this book by readers.

In the beginning, I was concerned because I wasn't immediately sucked into the story. There are many POVs, gender distinctions, and multiple timelines that keep your brain trying to catch up with what is really going on.

It seems like I can only stand to read science fiction lately. I'm looking for escape in my reading right now, and this book provides it. An interesting concept and exploration of identity, destiny, and world-building. Here, ship and space stations get AI personalities that can be extended into multiple bodies working together. These ancillaries have advantages and disadvantages compared to human armies. The world leader also uses multiple bodies to be able to manage a vast space empire.

I really enjoyed this one. The fact that everyone is referred to as she or her when pronouns are used, is interesting, but it did sometimes make it hard to picture what was going on in my head as I kept trying to figure out who was male and who was female. I think it just throws you off a bit if you're the type of person who reads books and it turns into a movie in your head. Which makes me think, does it really matter?
