Beautiful, one of those books that I wonder who could continue to write after reading it. I was also sure I've seen the movie, but the story caught me and the writing, so fluid and elegant, dragged me towards an ending that just did not remember. Wonderful.

Having adored the Hitchock film version of this novel years ago, I can't believe it's taken me this long to read this novel.

Rebecca is simply astounding. Du Maurier doesn't write with flourishes, really, or a unique sense of humor or anything, she just bangs out a CLASSIC plot with finesse and undeniable impact. I love the romance here, Maxim and his new wife gaining complete empathy despite the odds--the truth about what happened to Rebecca, her shyness. Mrs. Danvers is such an effective villai ...more
