I've enjoyed other books by this author, especially Room. But I'd been holding off reading this book set during the 1918 flu because I just wasn't ready for a pandemic book until the COVID situation was further in the past.
I'm tremendously impressed that the author managed to so precisely capture a lot of the feelings of living through a pandemic in this novel which she wrote before covid -- the book was published in July 2020, so must have been completed a good bit before that.

So for some, 3 stars is a bad rating but for me, 3 stars is that "I liked it". This is an apt description about how I felt about this book. I liked it but it likely won't be a top read for me this year. Set during the Flu epidemic in 1918 in Dublin, it sure gives the reader a taste of what it might've been like for women during this time. Definitely not an easy read to be sure.
