The narrator for the audiobook is fantastic. I'll definitely be listening to other books in this series.
In some ways, this series reminds me quite a bit of Harry Dresden -- this is to London what Harry is to Chicago. Except that instead of a sarcastic middle aged white guy, Peter Grant here is a mixed race, actual police officer young Londoner.

this review is for the audiobook edition, narrated by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith.
this is going to be a weird review. sorry! it's landed in the dreaded 3-star bucket, and this is always tricky terrain for me.

A fun urban fantasy, narrated by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith. Aaronovitch sets up a delightful alternative London paced with lots of action by a young, newly-minted police officer, Peter Grant. The author introduces us to ghosts and river gods, a police bureau housed in The Folly, bits and pieces of London history and the introduction of modern technology to an age-old policing order. The British slang term "snarky" applies perfectly. This is NOT a cozy mystery. There are plenty of gruesome deaths.

Peter is then drafted as an apprentice magician to Nightingale. He's involved in solving the case of people who become irrationally angry then have their faces explode. He's also helping Nightingale solve a dispute between Mama Thames and Old Man Thames, two rivers gods/spirits. This book was a lot of fun and i really liked the main character. There's still
