No wonder the audiobook version of this book was so excellent -- both Simon Vance and Scott Brick, two of my favorite narrators, participated in the reading. I listened to the end of this book while driving through a rain storm. It was entirely counter to the desert planet setting, but at least counteracted the overwhelming sense of thirst brought on by the story.

It's been a very satisfying re-visit of the Dune universe after a decade. It has this fascinating mix of sci-fi with a fantastic/religiously coloured understanding of myths which helps Paul Atreides to gain the leadership of the Fremen - though as these myths are consciously planted by the Bene Gesserit, the 'religious' group who make used of advanced training methods to read and influence people, they are still scientific in nature.
