I'm not a fan of YA lit. I usually can't stand most stories written for a teen-aged aduience as I find the descriptions tedious and over use of exposition mind-numbing. However, this book was just impossible to put down. It has to be the best thing written directly for teens I've ever read and can't wait to get the sequels! Most people know and understand the plot, but what you may not get until you read this book is how well it's written. This book offers much in the way of critical conversatio

I love books about future dystopian societies. I also happen to love watching that ever popular (and frequently repeating) tv show Survivor. How about a mash-up? Survivor set in a future dystopian society? Ah yes, the ultimate mash-up!
That, in a nutshell, is what The Hunger Games are. Just an extreme version of reality tv survival show where instead of getting voted off you are killed off. This kind of storyline could be taken in many directions. There is high potential for some coat tail riding ...more

After hearing all the hype surrounding this series, I decided I should read it and see if the hype was legit. So I purchased the series and I have to say, I am blown away. This is the first book in a long time where I have been able to sit down and read for hours and hours on end. I read the first two thirds of the book in one setting, and finished the book the very next chance I got.

I went back and forth between loving this book and hating it. First of all, life is very precious to me. The idea that society had devolved so far that watching children kill each other would be entertaining was repulsive to me. All that aside, this was an amazing book. I was disappointed about the fake romace thing, though. I kept hoping that Katniss would discover her true feelings for Peeta. I think she's in love, but that could just be wishful thinking on my part. What is it with these heroi

THG is of the best YA novels I've read in some time. While it is unlikely to have the effect Harry Potter did, it is still dynamic in its narrative voice and character development. While in Harry Potter good and evil are presented as knowable and the good guys and bad guys are, for the most part, easy to distinguish (there are some exceptions), in THG, our notions of good and evil are continually deconstructed and reconstructed. As a book that is at the same time popular and well-written, it is

I loved this book! I'm a huge fan of post-apocalyptic literature and I really appreciated the way Collin's approached the genre. It was such a pleasure to read. I felt like a morphling addict.. just couldn't put it down.
