When Stephen King claimed this book scared the living hell out of him, I thought this: A)His own actual horror novels have given him a temporary case of insanity and denial of reality B) He was just being polite. Or C) worst of all, he actually trembled with fear reading this bile of a book.

How the King Of Horror, much less anyone, could like this book or even feel the least bit of a tremor at the content is as mystifying to me as people’s fervent belief in Bigfoot. There was not even one likea ...more

This book was simply amazing. It has everything I love in a book. Horror, mystery, suspense, psychological drama. Twist ending. The book is also extremely well-written in general. I look forward to reading more from this author.

So I’m highlighting passages (so much highlighting) as references to classic horror and then we get to the blog post #1 and I fell out laughing. And stopped highlighting. Thanks for doing all the work for me!
Although not quite all the work. I’m not sure right now if the real people were all just Easter-eggs, or... DUN DUN DUUUUUUUNNNN deliberate clues dropped by eeeeeevilllllll.

This was good, but it wasn't great. I liked the relationship between the two sisters, but there were other things I didn't like. Without giving anything away...I didn't like Merry's blog posts. I didn't love that Marjorie's diagnosis wasn't absolute, but I think that's probably a reality with mental health. Im not an expert on dark fiction, but I'd say this is worth 3 stars... ...more

More like 3.5 but rounding up because the ending blew me away. The way the story is told is unique and I'm glad I listened to the audiobook as the narrator did an EXCELLENT job in defining the different sections by changing up her voice to match the different stages of youth of the main character. Sometimes the book dragged a little - and I was annoyed by the blog critique bits - but overall, definitely recommend the audiobook over the print copy. ...more

Kind of went back and forth with the rating. The fact that the book actually kind of mimics The Exorcist/Paranormal Activity and has this odd blog thing really kind of brought some negative light to the book.
