Wonderful. A new addition to my 'Favorites' shelf. I am a big fan of Ken Follett and wish that I had read this sooner, as I have owned a copy for a long time. Thanks to the Goodreads reading groups that made this their monthly read for Jan/Feb/March (YES- 3 of the groups I belong to have all picked this novel so far this year! A LOT of incentive!) This chunky historical novel covers the building of a cathedral over about 50 years in England in the 12th century, and the intertwined lives of monks, masons, and local nobles in the town around it.
For a 1000-page novel, it was a fast read. Follett is a great storyteller and makes his story addictive. Most of the book is set during the fight for the throne between Stephen and Maud, and we end with Henry II and the famous murder in Canterbury cathedral, so these are violent times.
