I did enjoy this story very much and I would have give 4 star easily for entertainment. But writing wasn't great, characters doesn't feel real, add anti-Semitism, classism, sexism, nationalism (the negative one) and subjective look on Great French Revolution (more misleading than subjective, actually).

Ah, a “masked avenger” story with all the best aspects of the genre, but not so different from others I’ve read ——– oh wait, this is the original and it’s so much fun! The Scarlet Pimpernel has intrigue, betrayals, passion, misconceptions, disguise and adventure. The 1905 copyright date does give itself away as many of the characters are pretty stereotypical, and the romance is quite “male as hero”, “woman as gullible” based, but, for me, that was part of the classical nature of the book and par ...more
