Well, I finally caved. I got sucked in to the Outlander world. I 'read' the audiobook version and really enjoyed it. Could the book have been trimmed down by about 100 pages or so? Yes. But- I AM a sucker for HISTORY and this book is full of that. (Specifically, the Scottish clans + highlands in the 1700's.) I will wait to write more on this novel once my group finishes reading it (I totally read too fast). Now the question is = will I cave further and get the next book in the series? Can I read

I mostly enjoyed this book (whose US title is Outlander) but I found Claire, the heroine, extremely irritating. She travels back in time from 1946 to 1743 and that aspect attracted me to the book, but I was a little disappointed. There was a point in the middle where I wondered if I should just stop and read one of the other group reads instead. But the plot picked up again with the witch trial and I didn't have any trouble staying interested after that. Just wish I could have liked Claire ...
