And so it begins with a missing wife – police on your doorstep – and the fear of being accused of the crime, especially when you haven’t been completely honest. And then the media move in and chaos reigns supreme.

Does their story bear resemblance to the Scott Peterson and Lacey Peterson murder case in California? Is there a definitive answer to the crime? No, to the first 4.5 Stars

And then the media move in and chaos reigns supreme.

Does their story bear resemblance to the Scott Peterson and Lacey Peterson murder case in California? Is there a definitive answer to the crime? No, to the first question. Yes, to the second and very surprising, too.

Nick Dunne and Amy Elliott Dunne have both lost their high-profile jobs in New York City. They’ve relocated to Nick’s hometown in Missouri where he now co-owns a small bar with his sister. Amy hasn’t found a job and remains in the home. Along with financial woes, Nick is faced with caring for his ill parents -- but these are only a fraction of the problems plaguing this not-so-happily-married couple. The plot begins to turn dark and wicked. That old saying “no one knows what goes on behind closed doors” begins to surface. There’s so much more than meets the eye here – this is not simply a missing person case.

An alternating POV between the wife’s journal entries before going missing and the husband’s current narratives as the case builds intensifies the interest in this mind-boggling game of cat and mouse. Flynn keeps readers on high alert for the next “gotcha” moment and there are numerous ones. I like the smart and witty style the author brings to the table. She doesn’t waste time or effort on non-plus filler. You’ll discover enough sneaky mind games, cheating, deceit, and suspicion to keep the adrenaline flowing fast and furiously. And throughout the entire journey, you’ll be asking yourself this question: Who do I believe?

Gone Girl is an electrifying psychoanalytical thriller that grabs hold from the start sending chills and thrills down your spine until the surprise ending. In the end you’ll be dizzy from the many plot turns and twists. Quite irresistible for a true lover of mystery and suspense! Without a doubt, this one sticks with you long after you reach the finish line. I’ll definitely be in search of Gillian Flynn’s backlist of books, as well as on the lookout for any new releases by her in the future.

This book had a lot of hype before & after the movie with Ben Affleck & Rosamund Pike. I am a person that likes to read a book when the hype is low and to get my own opinions.
Well, the truth this book for me is 3.5-stars. Gillian Flynn's writing is fantastic and very interesting. I had a little problem with the main characters, both Nick & Ammy are despicable but for different reasons.
I realize that this novel is not for everyone. It's about very flawed people who do terrible things. Gone Girl ...more

This one kept me guessing, and I didn't expect the ending. Can't say I really liked the ending, though. I found neither of the main characters likeable, but the plot was so intriguing, and I liked the way it was told from two different viewpoints. I've got to read more by this author. I can't remember ever reading such an unsettling, graphic, and occasionally downright offensive book. And yet I couldn't stop reading! The writing is impressively crafty and twisty such that I enjoyed being manipulated even as I wanted to shake Nick and Amy for being such messed-up human beings! I think I will read more of Gillian Flynn's books, but I'll need to read a few less intense books before I return to this genre. ...more

I'd been seeing this book everywhere and had it recommended to me but just recently picked it up. I could not put this book down. And you can't even discuss this book with anyone who hasn't read it yet or is in the process of reading it because of all the twists and turns.
